On Monday, 23/03/2026, I had the joy of joining Years 2 and 3 at Avonmore Primary School for their Careers Week 2026, a brilliant initiative designed to broaden pupils’ horizons and help them imagine the many paths their futures might take.
During our virtual session, I shared a presentation titled “How Languages Helped Me Build My Own Business”, exploring how learning languages shaped my journey and eventually led to creating Speak Greek. Together, we looked at:
- Why languages open doors in every sector
- My own (very squiggly!) path through languages
- Six Greek‑origin words pupils guessed in seconds (elephant, magnet, carrot, rhino, music, Geography)
- What it’s really like to run a self‑employed business
- How they can use languages in their own futures
A huge thank‑you to Jo, SENDCo & PSHE Lead at Avonmore Primary, and Davina, Senior Primary Engagement Coordinator at Education and Employers.
