Greek Lunch Club – Week 3: Speed, Sound, and Signs in Greek!
Our Greek Lunch Club continues to grow with energy and excitement at the primary school! In our third session today, the children took on new challenges with double vowels in Greek, learning how combinations like ει, οι, αι, and ου create different sounds. Their confidence in reading is really shining through.
The highlight of the session was the “Eilly Reading Challenge,” where students raced against the clock to read Greek syllables as quickly as possible. Laughter and determination filled the room as they tried to beat the 10‑second mark — a fantastic way to build fluency and make learning fun!
We also practiced listening skills by identifying everyday Greek words such as καλημέρα (good morning), θάλασσα (sea), and παγωτό (ice‑cream). The children were thrilled to recognize these familiar words and connect them with their meanings.
To finish, everyone got creative by designing their own room signs in Greek. From welcoming messages like “Καλώς ήρθατε!” (Welcome!) to playful phrases such as “Ποιος είναι;” (Who is it?), the students proudly decorated their signs, showing how Greek can be used in real life.
It was inspiring to see their enthusiasm, teamwork, and growing independence with the language. Each week, they are not only learning Greek but also finding joy in expressing themselves through it. We can’t wait to see what new adventures await in our next session!
